• 91% per cent of Newham children due to start an infant or primary school from September 2025 have been offered their parents first choice school
Figures released this week show Newham has the eighth highest number of first preference placements in London.
Councillor Sarah Ruiz, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Parents and carers across Newham will be delighted that their children have secured a place at their preferred Primary School in September.
“After what can be an anxious wait, we are delighted the vast majority of our families will be happy with the news today. Whichever school our young people in Newham attend, parents can be confident they’ll have access to the best education, where pupils can build friendship networks and flourish as they learn, achieve and grow.
“Newham has a highest percentage of outstanding schools in the country, with over 32% being rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, and Newham's Year 6 pupils are ranked fourth nationally for reading, writing, and maths.
“My thanks to the dedicated team that make this often complex placement process run smoothly.”
